But “Sylvia,” a two-part episode started on episode 17 of season 7, still stands out. It follows Sylvia, a sheltered teenager living under her controlling father.

With no other options available, he decides to leave the blind school in Hester Sue's hands, pack up with Mary, and become Walnut Grove's very first lawyer. His first client is Edgar Mills, a man who seems to have swindled the townspeople into purchasing a worthless piece of land. Laura promptly resigns from her teaching position when she is forced to integrate French and art appreciation into the curriculum, for the sake of earning school funding. Mrs. Oleson takes over the position and begins to altar the classroom instruction, while Laura struggles to accept her role as a fulltime housewife. The students, meanwhile, are frustrated with their new teacher and hatch a plan to get things back to normal.

At the end of Act 1, Mrs. Olesen (who has listened in on Dr. Baker's telephone call to Mr. Webb) has learned about Sylvia's pregnancy. The gossip quickly spreads around Hero Township, and includes allegations that Albert is the father. We didn't have a table reading or anything as far as I remember. I just went on the sets, and I was, like, in costume with him.

Although his intentions are good, he ends up overexerting the kids with long practices and a philosophy that values winning at all costs. An attractive, yet painfully insecure teenage girl named Sylvia becomes the victim of a violent rapist. As she deals with her domineering father and attempts to keep her secret at school, Albert serves as an unexpected source of comfort for her. A romance soon blossoms, and all is well until Sylvia is revealed to be pregnant. "Little House on the Prairie" and the punk, sci-fi freakout "Repo Man" could not be more different, but for Barash, both gigs instilled in her a reputation as a cult actress. "Because of 'Little House,' I have this really weird fan base," she said.
One afternoon, while walking home from school, Sylvia picks some flowers in a nearby meadow and woods. She is then seized from behind and raped by an unidentifiable assailant dressed in black and wearing a clown mask and knit cap (the rape taking place off-camera). After the assault, she eventually makes her way home, bruised and battered, and tells her father, Hector Webb, of the attack. Hector is devastated, but more concerned for his reputation than injury to his daughter. He tells her not to tell anyone since no one must know "of [this] disgrace" and leaves her to cry in her room.

Bonnie Bartlett, 94, might have the longest career of any cast member. Many might remember her as played the mom in the movie "Twins." Jonathan Kovacs, 54, said he was happy to meet so many fans. They stood in lines ― for more than five hours at times ― for a chance to meet their favorites and get selfies. They thanked the stars for being a big part of their childhood. When Kate accompanies him on a visit to deliver a baby to a woman whose own birth he had handled, their age difference is magnified for both of them.

Mr. Webb gets his gun and declares he's going to pay Albert a visit. When Sylvia begs her father to reconsider, he calls his daughter a whore and she runs out of the house. Back at the Webb place, Mr. Webb—who only feels shame and embarrassment that his daughter got pregnant—has started to show his house and farmstead to prospective buyers. He's decided he wants to move from Walnut Grove with his daughter and start a new life. One of those who is interested is Irv Hartwig, the town's blacksmith. Mr. Webb offers to sell the land for $1,500, and Hartwig says he'll consider it, commenting that it seems to be a very fair price.
They continue to argue, and eventually, Laura breaks their engagement. In this episode, a lawyer visits to tell Charles that he is the heir to the massive estate of his late Uncle Ned, who owned the Ingalls Carriage Company, and a large house in St Louis. Charles and Caroline get carried away and run up a large debt at Oleson’s Mercantile. For example, her attacker’s face is literally unreal, covered in a mask.
When she asks about Sylvia's feelings about the baby she's carrying, Albert admits he never asked about that, but it doesn't matter since he'll be able to care for it. Caroline says that there's more to raising a baby than meeting its physical and material needs, and that Sylvia may not love the baby because it was conceived by an act of violence. One day immediately following class, Laura notices that Sylvia appears ill.
Albert confides his anger to Charles, who points out that Albert doesn't have all the facts. According to Laura, Sylvia has repeatedly told Dr. Baker that she doesn't know who the father is. Albert is doubtful, but Charles admonishes him not to be so quick to judge people, that it could have happened against her will.
I think it was the scene with my dad, played by Royal Dano. There was a very emotional scene when he called me a whore. He was so scary when we did the scene, but he was such a sweetheart — the nicest guy who was a really good actor. While the relationship between Laura and Sylvia were adult teacher and teenage student, the two actresses, Melissa Gilbert and Olivia Barash, are less than 9 months apart in age.
